Microsoft Office FrontPage, more commonly known simply as "FrontPage", is a website creation and management program. With FrontPage, users can easily create and edit web pages with the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) HTML editor. (Web pages are written in HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language.)

The WYSIWYG editor hides the details of the HTML code from the user; thus, FrontPage is considered to be one of the best tools that allow Web novices to create professional-looking websites. This does not mean that FrontPage only caters to rookies – at the hands of a person with a good command of HTML, creation of dynamic and sophisticated sites becomes faster.

Aside from the HTML editor, FrontPage provides web administration functionalities to manage your websites. Also, the program"s built-in scripting tools allow for interactive websites, such as those employing pop-up menus and JavaScript.

Microsoft FrontPage also employs a WYSIWYG eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XLST) editor, which allows for more hassle-free deployment of eXtensible Markup Language (XML) data-driven sites. XML allows people and information to be connected in various ways, such as RSS feeds, and any site using XML has a definite advantage working for it.

One of the users" favorites in Microsoft FrontPage is the support for automated web templates. These templates sport automatic navigation systems for websites, including animated navigation buttons. Thus, the user is more or less freed from a prolonged planning and preparation phase for his/her websites" internal structures.

Microsoft FrontPage has a built-in image editor in the form of MS Image Composer; you can even work with graphics from other applications. FrontPage also allows you to see how a website will look in various combinations of web browsers and screen resolutions, as well as have pixel-precise control of the website layout.

FrontPage is part of the Microsoft Office suite of applications and was built to run in the Windows operating system. As such, FrontPage proves to be simple to use for people who have previous knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g. MS Word). Also, FrontPage can be easily integrated into other Office applications, such as an MS Access database.
